Why We Are Merging Design & Tech

It is finally official! At last, as HOWL and Frankly, we have joined our forces! We are excited beyond words to share this next chapter of our journey with you. We know what we are doing is unique and special and we cannot wait to get started.

HOWL has been founded in 2007. It has been a staple of Scandinavian Design community for ten years. And in those ten years it has created hundreds of iconic and award-winning products that have been transformative to multiple industries and companies such as NOKIA, Sony, IKEA, Toyota, Iittala…

In 2012 Frankly has been founded as an engineering consultancy and in just a matter of a few years, became a technology powerhouse. By solving the most complex problems with creative solutions, it quickly became the favorite of many multi-nationals and startups such as Electrolux, Scania, Saab, IKEA, Tetra Pak, Jabra…

There are a ton of things that makes us love working together. We believe in collaboration. We believe in imagination. We believe in creativity. We believe in thinking deep. Most importantly, we believe in making things happen. From day one of our collaboration, we proudly coined the motto “From ideas to shipping boxes”

We have been working together for half a decade as separate entities but always side by side. Our partnership became better with every passing day until we no longer could draw any hard lines between Design and Engineering. We start projects together, work tirelessly together and we also play together. We don’t believe in separating brains from beauty, experience from limitations or digital from physical.

That’s why in the beginning of 2017, we have proudly announced that we are officially merging under the name Above.

We chose the name Above… because we choose to take a higher point-of-view to all problems we face. We chose Above because we would like to go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver whatever is necessary for our clients and customers. We chose Above because we found a higher ground above design and technology where all brains and hearts clench around creating meaningful experiences.

We are one big mirrorball of inventors, strategists, dreamers, entertainers, thinkers, doers, coders, designers, storytellers, researchers and engineers who strongly believe that great minds don’t think alike.

We believe in sharing opposing views and our passion from day one without handovers, documentation and big egos.

Therefore, we embrace each other’s differences, skills and personalities, to see ourselves evolve and grow — as a team, and as human beings.
