There’s no one left. Or so it seems. I’ve never heard such quiet. When the absence of sound becomes the only sound you can hear. Ears begging for some decibel of acknowledgment that something or someone else is out there. I get nothing in return.

A cold reminder that this is the end of days. No dead bodies. No zombies. It’s not what we used to see on television shows. It’s nothing like that. It’s just me. The only one left. I don’t how it came to be or why, but it still is.

The Internet works. There is power. I can drive any car I want to. There is gas at all of the gas stations. There is food everywhere. I can do whatever I want to. Everything is fine. Except I am alone.

There aren’t even animals. Or fish. I know because I’ve been driving back and forth across this country for five years now and I haven’t seen a single living being, be it animal or human. I used to think the end of days were near, but now they aren’t near enough.
