The Magician’s Trick
Can you make cruelty disappear?
Sophia hated her job. She hated her colleagues and she hated the stupid train that always ran late.
That was the only reason why she was walking down a deserted street instead of being tucked up in her bed.
All she’d asked for was one favour.
It wasn’t like her intern had been busy when she passed him her transcription job so she could leave early but her boss hadn’t seen it like that.
He’d blown up at her in front of everyone and Sophia had been humiliated.
She knew that the only reason why David was mad was because Sophia had told his wife about their affair.
If he’d given her the promotion he’d promised her, she wouldn’t have had to but he’d obviously thought he could pull one over on her.
The thought made Sophia sigh because the additional work from that transcription meant she’d missed her regular train home and the late train had lived up to its name.
It had arrived at the station an hour late meaning that by the time Sophia got off in town, it was almost midnight.
She’d considered taking a taxi but given David’s behaviour, she wasn’t sure if she’d be getting her usual bonus so instead, she’d started the long trek home.
