Importance of Quality Education

There are a number of reasons why quality education is important for the development of mankind and the world. A very broad way to view one is that with quality education comes a more intelligent society. A publication on the website ‘Medium’ titled “7 Shocking Statistics Illustrating the Importance of Global Education” gave one statistic that stood out to me. “Only one-half of students in the U.S. study a world language compared to Europe where 90 percent of students study at least one foreign language.”(Participate learning. 2016). This stood out to me because in today’s society more and more jobs are becoming international and the skill of knowing multiple languages is something that will be useful. In competitive job markets this is a skill that is viewed as a valuable skill to hold. That statistic is also just about the United States. Many nations in developing areas lack proper education that has had impact on the development of the societies.

The article also states this, “Nearly all (98 percent) of students in a recent survey agreed that a strong understanding of world history and events is critical to developing solutions to a global problem.”(PL. 2016). This quote stands out because I think that it is important for society to better itself you need to be able to understand history and cultures that differs from yours. Many global issues stem from differences in culture and aspects of life similar to that. If people had better understandings of other cultures, I believe there would be less conflict around the world. Another quote that ties to this is, “Research shows that students who learn about global issues are more than twice as likely to see the importance of personally taking social action” (PL. 2016). This stands out because it shows that with better understandings of history can help people to not make same poor decisions over again. It will give a better understanding of other cultures and how include them in society and to not discriminate. If people could truly understand the types of struggles some go through on a daily basis would surely give perspective and have an impact on how someone with privilege lives their life. Not only do I think that quality education should be available to everyone, but the type of information being taught must be of high standards that will be useful. Learning about humanity and other cultures is something I think should have high value in current education systems and possibly have more emphasis put on it in future education systems/reforms.
