I want to run but for some reason I cannot move because the truth is: I’m meant for this—this moment, this dream—that is staring me down, like it knows it’s meant for me, too.
That’s how I feel when I think of starting a new endeavor. The beauty and promise of a dream is so exciting but then my fears begin to seep in and slowly extinguish my aspirations.
But the good news is, when a dream is meant for us, it will always return in some way, gently but confidently staring us down to remind us of its presence. Soon we realize we must take that leap of faith, once and for all, but how? Simple: A few small steps every day. This is how you add momentum to your dream.
As an inspiring writer, I’m often torn—not knowing what direction to go in. What genre should I write for? What do I have to say, to add to the world? “Baby steps” is all I hear, everywhere I turn. “Just keep writing, keep practicing, and the rest will come…”
As I write these words, there’s a winter storm brewing outside my window so I paused for a moment to check out the Weather Channel; under the Doppler radar, a picture caught my eye: a little Bangladeshi boy had jumped in the water to save a drowning baby deer. It was so touching and brought tears to my eyes. I realized that this is my tiger (my dream) speaking to me, starting me down. And this is why I will write every day—to try to be more like him, to help others in any way I can.
