In this story, I’ll tell you how to get 10,000 followers. But in 5 minutes from now, you’re not going to want them.
Let’s make Medium a better place, I’ve had enough
I don’t mean “people” in general, I’m talking about you and me. Yes, you.
Are you in?
I’ve been wondering how we can make a difference together
This is not about big goals and spectacular projects. It’s about the small, everyday interactions between us.
My own big, long-term goals are my plans to publish short fiction and eventually a novel. Okay, that will hopefully make a difference — that’s the plan anyway.
But this is not what I need you for.
I need you to help me make our everyday life more interesting, and improve ourselves in the process.
You make a difference by sticking to what you truly believe
I hate the “regular posting”and “newsletter sneaky selling” that’s going on in here. I hate the tactics, the “make your own publication so you can send newsletters” shit. Medium is supposed to be all about quality, am I wrong? I believe that was the point to begin with.
Then why all the tactics and the selling and the obsessive aggregation of followers? Writers on Medium and Twitter are obsessed with followers, have you noticed? I’ve had people following me every day, even when I’m not publishing anything, obviously hoping for a follow back. Have you ever stopped to think if these followers you’ve been gathering even care about what you have to say?
More importantly, do you even care about those who follow you? Or are they just a number to you?
I believe it’s the latter most of the time, which allow me to say is very, very wrong.
My own dreams for Medium
I’m dreaming of a space where people connect, to inspire each other and learn from each other’s successes, dreams, and failures. And that’s why I’ve started this publication. I love to write fiction, and I’m making myself a better writer every day. I want to share this journey with people who are chasing their own dreams.
I’m dreaming of a place where people don’t count followers. Instead, everyone has as few followers as possible, who really care about each other and honestly want to interact, collaborate and create.
I’m dreaming of a Medium publication that doesn’t post daily “so people don’t forget” about it.
I’m dreaming of a place where people post whenever there’s something truly important to talk about, and not because they have to.
You may ask who’s going to be the judge of what’s important and what isn’t.
After all, making a difference is all about being yourself and practicing what you preach. Making a difference is all about being different in your own way.
Let’s forget about the 4 to 6 minute stories that have a higher read ratio. Let’s make stories that are 1 minute long, or 30 minutes long, or anything in between, but come from our heart.
Let’s forget about counting claps.
Please, don’t clap for my stories. Send me a message instead. Let’s be useful to each other for once.
Let’s focus on putting out what we truly think can inspire others, and let’s do so in a remarkable way.
This publication will follow this rule from now on. I may post in it twice a year instead of daily, but it’s going to bring value and be fun. You’re welcome to contribute if you think this is your cup of tea.
We’re not going to be for everyone, but for those who find some meaning in what we have to say. This publication is for those who believe in writing with their heart and reading with their soul.
That’s definitely me. Does it sound like something you’d love to be part of?
I don’t want you to follow me
I don’t want you to follow A Writing Journey, and I don’t want you to follow me.
I don’t care, honestly.
A year from now, I might have a gazillion followers, or I might be left with two. I don’t care. I’m not counting.
Please only follow me if you like what you read. Please follow me if you want to talk, learn and teach. We’re humans, we’re not a number under someone’s bio. If you want people to respect you, show some respect for yourself first.
All I want is to find that one person who’s like me. That person who’s too busy for meaningful interaction, but will make the time for it anyway.
I’m looking for that one person who will want to talk about their dreams and listen to mine, aiming to better ourselves together.
So, you’re welcome to put forward your heart’s contents in here. If you feel this is touching your heart, then by all means do send me a draft. If I feel it touches my heart, you’re published. No prerequisites, no rules. I don’t care if you’ve published anything before, if you’re doing time in prison right now, or if you’re the best writer in the goddamn universe. If your story works for me, then it’s good enough. I don’t care if anyone else thinks it’s brilliant or rubbish.
I want to talk about learning how to write, and I want to talk about dragons. You may talk about whatever your passion is.
The theme of the publication is turning one’s passion into a creative and meaningful journey. It’s all about improving ourselves in every way. If your idea matches this theme, then let’s talk.
And that’s how I’d like you to choose whether you’re with me or not. Do you feel my intentions and my message resonate with you? Then give it a go. Let’s connect, let’s write together, and let’s make something meaningful at last.
Let’s start interacting in a way that has some real meaning for a change, instead of exchanging claps.
By the way, if you still want more followers, you can buy as many as you like through services such as this one, this one, or this one over here, for as little as $3. I can assure you this is going to be the most spectacular waste of money you’ll ever see in your entire life. You’ll have countless followers tomorrow, but you’re going to be alone.
If you’re at all serious about chasing your dream, then look for that one person who’s as passionate as you are, and inspire each other to improve your art.
Let’s make Medium a better place.
Who’s with me?
Let me introduce myself.
My name is Kyros and my goal is to publish the fantasy novel I’m writing.
Let’s connect and inspire each other to achieve our goals.
