Americans do it best (Day 48)

Even before Otto was born and still, us both, my husband and I, we do a lot of reading on caring for and raising babies. It is not that we want to have all the latest gadgets or programs out there, but we look for things that make sense in terms of aiding our baby boy’s development and also, helping us care for his wellbeing.

What we found is that Americans do the baby stuff the best. We have been ordering online a lot this year and we had to be especially craftsy with deliveries from America.

First, I wanted a good baby monitor and came across some of them that also aid parents in detecting if babies are not breathing. However, they had some electronic panels that had to be placed under the baby’s mattress and we didn’t want that. So my husband did some research and read tons of reviews and came across Nanit, which is like the Ferrari amongst baby monitors and we couldn’t be happier with what it provides. Together with its Breathing Wear and the app Insights that it offers to help you improve baby’s sleep, it is just the best.

Today, we finally got our Lovevery Play Gym for Otto and we are so excited. Currently, us more than Otto. I fell in love with everything Lovevery when I discovered them back during my pregnancy. It is basically a subscription service that ships toys that are developmentally encouraging for the specific age your child is in. I’m still devising how to get them to Slovenia every two months as they don’t ship internationally.

I already wrote about Otto’s Mamaroo from 4moms which he got from his grandparents. It is also an ingenious device, but for short periods. I prefer having him in my arms instead of him being rocked to sleep by a machine.

We also got a Boba wrap which we haven’t mastered just yet. I put it on just fine, but Otto gets totally stiff when I try to get him inside it, but I don’t push him in for any cost. I do however hope we get some use out of it soon. It should aid me in having two free arms and still carry and snuggle our little boy.

I am well aware that it is quite possible to raise a perfectly happy and healthy child without all this and many other things we opted-in to help us with Otto. It is just a personal decision and that is all.

Motherhood in numbers:

  • afternoon naps: none
  • diapers changed: five
  • meals: two
