What started off as a simple idea, has bloomed vivaciously over the years. Aaveg means more than just a fest for the first years. It is not just a platform for us to earn points for our hostels so that our hostels emerge victorious, it is much much more. Aaveg is more like an unbreakable bond. It is Aaveg that has strengthened the camaraderie between us, given us a family. It is Aaveg that has given us a reason to strive in this battle for the pride of our hostels. Aaveg made us fall in love with the black and white in Moonlight and at the same time it has brought us to a point where we are in love with the colors of our hostels.

And, this is just the beginning. Aaveg is not over yet, it has just begun. As we head into the final stretch of Aaveg, we look back at the Aaveg events which happened last year. In case you missed out on any of the events, we have it all covered.

Capture the Flag (CTF):

It had rained all morning that day when the teams took to the field. The ground was a soggy mess — definitely unlike the game that followed. Even though the event kicked off on the wrong foot due to the unexpected rain on 4th November, the Capture-the-Flag organising team saw this as no hindrance. They worked relentlessly towards the event to make sure that it took place.

With the energy and passion that is characteristic of the event, Capture the flag was the perfect event to start off Aaveg. All participating teams put in their best efforts in order to win the first points for Aaveg’18. It started with the knockouts which was followed by a league tournament where 5 teams battled. Amongst all the heated battles on-field, many supporters of the hostels had arrived to provide their overwhelming support. The field was all about slogans and a series of nail biting matches like never before.

Coral B emerged victorious in the engrossing battle between the hostels with Agate A and Diamond A following behind closely at second and third places, respectively. Overall, the two-day event was a grand success.

Gaming events:

The atmosphere was bubbling with enthusiasm and a sense of competition. 5 zones with two players each and many a heart beating for the pride of their hostel. That’s what the EEE auditorium was all about on the 21st of November as the various hostels brought forth their best players to steal the show with their mesmerizing gaming skills. An encouraging crowd gathered to cheer for their hostel mates. After establishing their victory in the various rounds, the winners for each of the gaming events emerged.

In the battlefield of Mini Militia, Jade was dominant as it bagged the coveted first and second positions followed by Diamond taking third place.

With proper tactics and execution, Coral bagged first place in CSGO, with Jade and Agate following closely at their heels.

Gameathlon was a new event in Aaveg’18, which was meticulously planned and carried out by the organizing team. In this novel event, Agate claimed the first as well as the third place while Jade took home second place.

Finally, we had the FIFA tournament. The matches were displayed on the projector to an excited audience that left no opportunity to cheer for their hostel mates. With plenty of skills, passes and goals, the matches were riveting. The first place went to Jade while Agate took the second place and third place honours.

Shoot At Sight:

Combining the skills of selfie-taking with exploring the campus, Shoot At Sight saw mass participation from all hostels. The campus was buzzing with participants who were constantly on the move to find the locations where they had to capture a selfie. This two day event required more than just amateur photography skills. Our knowledge of the whereabouts of every nook and cranny of NITT were also put to test. After many exhausting selfies taken, the event ended on a graceful note with the following teams bagging prizes.

First Place - Three Musketeers from Jade.

Second Place - Noobies from Agate.

Third Place - The Explosive Explorers from Agate.

Online Hostel History Event:

Before the end semester exams kicked in with full force (literally), this online event was conducted. Participants had to pen down creative and absurd stories explaining why their respective hostels were named so. The full creativity of the first years was put on show in this event, which can be seen on the comment section of the online post. After judging by Feeds-NITT, Opal came up with the two most creative/absurd stories while Jade came in third place.

These four events are just the start of the Aaveg calendar. In the upcoming weeks, we will have an assortment of events, which are waiting to be unraveled.

Aaveg is not about rivalry, it’s about strengthening bonds. Forever being the highlight of every fresher’s life, Aaveg isn’t just about making promises, it is about living up to every one of them.
