Canal(s) of Aberdeen

My tourist-style attempted identification of the course of one English Roman canal — the Cardyke — was far from easy except when roads built over/by it were helpfully named eg Cardyke Drive. It reminded me of the one that links Inverurie and Aberdeen and subsequently built over by the recently expanded railway.

Eighteen hundred years later from the northern most point that is Port Elphinstone there was a formal opening of the Aberdeenshire Canal which took over seven hours and several locks to reach the dockside at New Aberdeen.
