Day 7 — Signs, signs everywhere signs

We are exposed to many signs all day. Our environment shapes are decisions. To pause and be aware give us an opportunity to adjust course or keep rocking.

Encouragement. My friend and coworker, Lindsey let me borrow her Whole 30 books.

It was not until tonight when I had a rare moment to myself to read. And my face just lit up when I found this sweet note. A text, email, post, photo… and atta-girls make such a difference to know you have peeps cheering you on. I want to be your cheerleader too. Ready? OK!

Music. I am so touched by music. Do you have those moments when just the right song comes on at just the right time? Today, this was my sign to breathe. “Breathe” by Jonny Diaz http://myktis.com/songs/breathe-3/#.V-SkZPU4FS4.link

Excerpt:
Alarm clock screaming bare feet hit the floor
It’s off to the races everybody out the door
I’m feeling like I’m falling behind, it’s a crazy life
Ninety miles an hour going fast as I can
Trying to push a little harder trying to get the upper hand
So much to do in so little time, it’s a crazy life
It’s ready, set, go it’s another wild day
When the stress is on the rise in my heart I feel You say just
(chorus)
Breathe, just breathe
Come and rest at My feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to just breathe

Food. Did you know we get over 200 cues about food each day? Think of the yummy cheeseburger commercial, picking out lunch in a cafeteria, coworker brings in ___. It’s endless sometimes. No wonder it’s hard to say no, when we already say no 199 times throughout the day. We can also be so hard on ourselves. I heard from a dietitian at HealthPartners this week that food is not moral. It’s not good nor bad. It’s just an individual choice to make more healthier choices.

Hunger. A tummy growl is a sign I clearly waited too long to eat. Whew, good thing I have options within my grasp. Not afraid to bring the fruit and nuts to a meeting.

Headache. Do I need more water, or is this my body processing the processed stuff out. Both.

Stress cold sore. I get them when I’m coming off a very stress series of events. Yep, popped one on my lip yesterday. I guess it’s a good signs of moving forward, beyond the stress. Everyone’s body responds to stress differently. What’s yours?

Yawning. Is my body saying, where’s the sugar, Sugar? Do I need to stretch, walk, get away from my computer, or just get more sleep. Maybe all the above. When we do not have enough sleep, we reduce the satisfied hormone, leptin and increase the feed-me hormone, ghrelin. Not good.

Advertising.

I appreciate good advertising. I like the tone of US Banks new campaign encouraging people they can do it and the power of those possibilities. Their radio spot I heard on KS95 was great too. Have you heard it?

Kindness. After my purse was stolen on Sunday, I came to work and my friend Jodi put this card and gently used handbag on my chair.

Boy oh boy was my heart touched. I cried. Then I got home from work, and Stephanie, a dear friend gave Ani a wallet at dance for me to use. It’s the sweetness and kindness of others that just melts my heart. I want to do that more for others. For you.

You are my tribe.
