Introduction:

Bol.com has grown from an online bookstore to the biggest e-commerce marketplace in the Netherlands and Belgium and is on its way to evolve into an e-commerce platform. The Retailer API has contributed greatly to the growth of the marketplace and will also play a pivotal role in creating a vibrant ecosystem. But getting to this point and beyond we’ve faced obstacles and struggled with a range of issues. I will tell a bit about the history behind the Retailer API, which choices we’ve made, what we’ve been struggling with, and the challenges ahead.

About the presenters:

Maarten Roosendaal, Architect and API Product Manager, and John Lin, tech speaker and Ecosystem Business Developer, will present at the Meetup.

Maarten strives to make things happen for customers & (API) consumers by understanding their needs and wishes and coming up with fit-for-purpose solutions in the broadest sense. To realize this he focuses on data, insights and working together with and helping to build great teams. Based on his experience as an engineer, software architect, project lead, IT Architect, and Product Owner and Manager he is able to build bridges between all walks of (business/IT) life in complex software environments.

As an Ecosystem Business Developer, John’s role is to strategize, foster and manage the development of 3rd party companies that offer services to the merchants on the bol.com platform. John Lin works on Bol.com’s goal to offer their sellers high-quality third-party solutions that help them to sell easily and successfully on bol.com. They do this by setting up partnership programs with third parties. The latest developments in Bol.com’s ecosystem can be found on the portal ecosystem.bol.com. Our API is the enabler for these third-party solutions and for automating the sellers’ key retail processes. API support focuses on technical support for users and incident management.
