As of January 2022, the IBAN-Name Check API by SurePay is available on the ABN AMRO Developer Portal. The API performs an instant check on the correctness of your customer and supplier data (name and IBAN) based on real-time data from Dutch bank accounts. This ensures that payments are made to the right creditor, money is collected from the right debtor, and if the name and IBAN are a match for new customers and suppliers.

SurePay, the owner of the IBAN-Name Check API, released a new version of the API, including additional features to prevent fraud. This new version is now also available on the ABN AMRO Developer Portal. Read more about the new functionalities of the IBAN-Name Check API below.

New features in this release

In the new version of the API, additional features/checks are included, next to the IBAN-Name Check.

The API provides the following (current) standard features:

  • Confirmation of the IBAN and name combination: Whether the payee’s name and IBAN combination matches the data registered at the bank and to what extend.
  • Confirmation on the IBAN validity: Whether the IBAN is active or expired.
  • Information about the account: Whether it is an business or private account, and the number of account holders.

Upon request, the API provides the following (new) additional features:

  • Confirmation on the company: Whether the company details (KVK number) match the data registered at the Chamber of Commerce.
  • Confirmation on the VAT: Whether the VAT number matches the company or trade name.
  • Confirmation on cross-border IBAN and name combination: Whether the payee’s name and IBAN combination matches the international accounts (e.g. IBANs in France and Italy).
  • Information about the Switch Check / Overstapservice: Whether the account has switched to a new bank and the ‘switching service’ / ‘Overstapservice’ is active.
  • Information about the account age: Provides information on the period of time the account is active.

Benefits of the IBAN-Name Check API

Integrating the API in your business process ensures that payments are made to the right creditor, money is collected from the right debtor, and that new customers and suppliers are being validated. Validations can be performed on different levels (e.g. IBAN, name, VAT, KVK number) depending on your own business requirements and use case. All resulting in less misdirected payments and less payment fraud.

The IBAN-Name Check API can be integrated in any process and results can be used for multiple purposes (front, mid and back office). An overview of the main use cases:
