The number of companies in the Netherlands having to contend with cybercrime is increasing rapidly. And this is costing businesses billions of euros a year. ABN AMRO is the first bank in the Netherlands to offer a comprehensive service combatting cyber risks. The ‘Cyber Veilig & Zeker’ package (which translates as Cyber Safe & Secure) was developed in partnership with cybersecurity specialist MMOX to prevent, protect against, resolve and provide insurance for cyber-related damage and loss.

Over 60 per cent of Dutch businesses have faced cyberattacks of greater or lesser severity at some time. In 2021 alone, the Dutch police registered more than 14,000 cases of cybercrime, up by a third since 2020. And the most recent police figures show a largely continuing intensity. But although businesses’ risk perception has remained stable, research by ABN AMRO among 233 businesses shows that more and more of them are now keen to take preventive action, with 45% of respondents reporting that they had encountered some form of cybercrime.

But taking action to protect against cybercriminals demands high levels of expertise. And in many businesses, particularly large and medium-sized companies, the required knowledge and resources are simply lacking or inadequate.

As one of the largest banks in the Netherlands, ABN AMRO has the expertise needed to protect clients’ financial assets. By partnering with MMOX to offer Cyber Veilig & Zeker, the bank can now also offer them a high degree of security and assurance in the cyber arena.

The urgency of this is emphasised by Dick Berlijn, a Strategic Advisor to MMOX and former Chief of the Netherlands Defence Staff: “Unfortunately, cybercrime is here to stay. This makes society and businesses vulnerable. And the risks cybercrime presents are continuing to increase, certainly for businesses involved in digital data processing and communications. Being highly vulnerable has serious implications, and not all businesses can easily access a solution combining the required technology and expertise. The comprehensive service that ABN AMRO and MMOX offer to large and medium-sized companies is an effective way of dealing with the challenges that cybercrime represents to society.”

Martijn Dekker, ABN AMRO’s Chief Information Security Officer, adds: “Digital security is a top priority for banks. But also for large and medium-sized businesses. So I’m very pleased that we’ve been able to combine our expertise and intelligence to offer our clients a digital security solution that deals with one of the major concerns they currently face.”
