Big names, bigger ideas

TNW is a leading technology conference, hosted every year. During this event, there is a lot of knowledge shared. See some of the ABN AMRO highlights below!

Day 1 — June 16

From open banking to open finance: creating a new economic reality — Panel, 11:05–11:50

In a panel discussion including Koen Adolfs (Lead PO Open Banking at ABN AMRO), open banking and open finance are discussed. Open banking prospects remain high but take-up remains slow. A building block to open finance, its moderate progress is hindering making this a reality, where data from all areas of finance such as pensions and mortgages to be shared on an open data economy. This discussion will look at what open banking means for consumers, its shortfalls, and how technology will evolve in the future. What does open banking mean for consumers and how will they benefit from it? Why is open banking falling short of expectations? Will an open finance economy ever become a reality? Want to watch live? Is society ready to go cashless? — Panel, 14:45–15:30

In a panel discussion including Erica Kostelijk (Head of transaction banking at ABN AMRO), a ‘cashless society’ is discussed. With the prospect of a cashless society soon to be a reality for many, uncertainty about what this means for consumers is creeping in as millions of people still rely on cash. It sparks concerns about how financially inclusive digital banking really is. What does a cashless society look like? How would this impact financial inclusion and what is the role of governments and central banks in ensuring people are not left behind? How close are we to becoming cashless?

Day 2 — June 17

Employing technology to combat financial crimes — Robin de Jongh (ABN AMRO), 14:30–15:00

Robin leads you into the world of financial crime and talks about the gatekeeper role that banks fulfill. How does technology contribute to this and where are the innovation gaps? Various forms of technical expertise required to prevent and combat financial crime are discussed.

Worldwide about 2,400 billion euros are used in criminal transactions every year. Banks like ABN AMRO have a role as gatekeeper to detect these criminal transactions. But to successfully fight financial crime, it is essential for banks, governmental institutions, and police to collaborate. Technology helps the partners to track the criminal transactions down. They use existing and emerging technologies to solve the complex challenges related to financial crimes. How does technology contribute to the various areas and the work of the different parties? Where may the innovation gaps be? What various kinds of technology expertise are required? How do commercial and non-commercial institutions work together and innovate along the way to prevent and combat financial crime (from money laundering, fraud, tax evasion, terrorist financing, etc). What role can other companies/industries play in this process and in the future of financial crime prevention?

‘Ask a developer anything’ session followed by drinks — Panel of ABN AMRO Developers, 16:00–16:30

Is it more than just refining, analyzing, designing, developing/coding, testing, maintaining, and creating good quality and future-proof IT solutions? Yes! Want to learn what that is?
