Introducing ArtList.

As a general rule, if you like getting things done and happen to be an art collector, then you probably don’t like auction houses. By any measure, they are slow, expensive and tough to deal with. They’re also unfair to artists.

A growing number of you discover art through email, SMS or Instagram — and even feel confident making financial decisions based on JPEGs and conversation with sellers you can trust.

Still — there’s no good way online to buy or sell fine art on the secondary market. We think it’s time.

ArtList: buy fine art from peers, confidentially and instantly.

ArtList offers something no other art marketplace has ever offered: the ability to trade artwork confidentially with other people you trust, instantly, from your phone.

As a seller, you can post an artwork for sale, set a price (we’ll help), decide whether to share the images/details publicly or privately (only to people you select and feel comfortable with), discuss with potential acquirers and collect payment. All for 0% fee.

As a buyer, you can browse artwork and find the one you’re looking for. You can inquire to see private artwork (the seller will decide). You will pay a flat 10% fee if you buy an artwork. You can choose optional transportation and insurance options, or book an expert for authentication/valuation, for an added optional cost.

Artwork by Cory Arcangel (not this one) is already featured on ArtList

We know collecting always involves discussion, so we have made it extremely convenient to chat anonymously, confidentially and instantly on ArtList. It just works from any mobile phone or desktop, and when you are not on the site you are able to answer just as anonymously from your email.

Buyers and sellers can chat confidentially on ArtList. A seller can Reveal a private artwork to a buyer, and make him an offer.

We have also given some serious thought about the best way to guarantee privacy and security.

While every user is anonymous, we verify their ID and their profile will show critical information about them as collectors/dealers — so you’ll always know the kind of person you are dealing with.

Additionally, users build reputation over time: we credit them for past transactions, and they are rated by other users, to keep everyone honest.

As as seller, you are always in control over who you reveal and sell your artwork to. When shared privately, images are automatically watermarked with the full name of the receiver - so it won’t get shared.

Artwork by Josh Smith (not this one) is already featured on ArtList.

Read more about how ArtList works.

We share 50–50 with artists.

Finally, because we think artists should benefit from one of their works being resold, we will give half of our fee back to the artist

— we’ll just write them a check.

ArtList is a private beta , and you can request an invitation.

Some of the greatest global collectors of contemporary art are already on ArtList, where they have listed artwork by renowned contemporary artists including Danh Vo, Josh Smith, Sam Falls, Li Hui, Fredrik Vaerslev, Parker Ito and Yayoi Kusama.

If this sounds like work you own (with market prices up to $500,000) , and you would like to have listed, drop us a line on contact@artlist.co .

We‘re bringing trust, fluidity and fairness to the art market at a scale which has never been attained before.

We’re happy to have you join,

Kenneth, and Team ArtList
