Men + Cars = ❤ . Why ?
It’s not just because they are fast. A very short, and fun read.
Big engines. Loud exhausts. Spoilers.
There’s a reason why automotive companies globally are making new cars sportier, sleeker, and more aggressive.
Honda has completely re-designed its Accord family sedan into a sportier sedan. It’s not just a “family car” any more. Ford introduced its new 2014 Mustang at a low base price of $22,510.
Everywhere you look, automotive manufacturers are lowering their prices, but increasing their modern-styling.
But there is one constant: the male market remains very important for these companies.
So what is this connection with cars and men ?
The Girls
If having a nice car repelled girls — guys would not buy cars.
The roar of an engine, and the “vroom” arouse girls. For the male, stimulating the attention of girls is part of the courtship. Guys want girls to notice.
In fact, British researchers in 2008 discovered that “revving engine sounds” do trigger sexual arousal from females.
Researchers compare this to the peacock’s tail, which is the perfect analogy !
The Thrill
Researchers have also discovered that driving a nice car does increase the testosterone level of a male (it’s scientifically proven). In other words, it makes the male feel more masculine on a biochemical level. This essentially makes the driving experience more exciting, because adrenaline shoots up with increased testosterone.
This is why guys tend to take higher risk when driving a sports car — they feel empowered, and invincible.
More interestingly, guys do feel more masculine even without girls noticing when driving a nice car !
The Social Part
This reason is often overlooked.
Besides the feeling of prestige, protection, and autonomy — cars are awesome conversation starters. They communicate masculinity, and male-oriented knowledge. This is important, simply because males generally want to feel more masculine to exert dominance (not for controlling others, just for his own ego)
Today, the online car enthusiasts forums are worth over $10 billion. Just typing in the word “car” into Google brings in over 1 billion search results ! (Go ahead, try it yourself)
With the North American Auto Show attracting close to 800,000 people annually — cars are integral part of popular culture more than ever. Who knows what the future will hold for cars ?
