A Day in The Life of an Author

It’s not what you think…

I always smile when I see the portrayal of authors on TV. Well, it’s more of a strange, toothy grimace as watch the character Jessica Fletcher in Murder She Wrote, being sent on numerous cruises to get the first draft written in time. Now that’s something I could definitely get on board with.

Then there’s the Netflix series, Irish Wish, which manages to not only incorrectly represent authors, but make me cringe by throwing in the steriotypical Irish diddel-de-dah music and free wishes — to be sure, to be sure. I found out about the Netflix series in a private writer’s group I’m in. It was a laugh, reading my fellow author’s comments as they watched in horror at how we were all being portrayed. If only it was that easy to become a mega-successful bestselling author with movie deals coming out of our ears.

Now I don’t want to sound negative, because I’m actually a pretty positive person. I’ve done alright for myself, but I’ve put in the hours to get there. My 21st book was published today. I’ve been writing for ten years. Today was pretty typical day for me.
