A Dive into My Passion for True Crime
Where it started and where it stands now
My love for true crime goes way back to my childhood. I grew up in a house that was full of true crime fans. My mother had no qualms with us binge-watching Forensic Files and Unsolved Mysteries. (But for some reason, she drew the line at shows like Ren and Stimpy and Space Ghost Coast to Coast).
As I grew, my love for true crime grew with me. There were more shows that I came across, such as The First 48, Cold Case Files, America’s Most Wanted, Dateline, and many others. Then came the podcasts; shows like Last Podcast on the Left, Crime Junkie, Beyond Contempt: A True Crime Podcast, Red Collar, Anatomy of Murder, etc.
True crime cases, even ones about serial killers, have continued to blow my mind. And even though I’ve struggled with anxiety since middle school, it has not stopped me from indulging in the world of murders and mysteries. I can only think of a handful of times when a true-crime show/podcast triggered an anxiety attack. One recent example was the Last Podcast on the Left episode about Danny Rolling. That was BRUTAL. I won’t go into much detail; however, give it a Google if you feel brave.
