A Letter of Thanks
The Elegance of Vulnerability in Writing
“Gratitude is the most exquisite form of courtesy” — Jacques Maritain
In my humble opinion, we can never have too much gratitude and so it bears repeating, thank you. I appreciate everyone who has read my stories, given me encouragement, and feedback, acknowledged me by “clapping,” who’s followed me and even those who have decided to move on. I appreciate everyone’s time.
As I have previously mentioned, I am a high school English teacher. I stumbled across this platform, Medium, one day last school year when I was looking for an activity for my students. Not knowing anything about it other than skimming the information that returned in search results, I put the app on my phone and would read stories that were free to access and occasionally browse the headlines as they would come through in my school email. It wasn’t until mid-January this year, and after finding some success writing on another platform, that I was inspired to take the plunge and sign up as a paying member and begin sharing my written word here.
I don’t know where my writing journey will take me, but I do know that I have a lot to say. It’s both freeing and scary to put your words into print because it makes you vulnerable. I also believe it takes courage and strength because the mask we hide behind comes off when we openly express ourselves. I think it’s in those moments of vulnerability that true connections are made. I’m humble and I care about others, genuinely looking for the good in all mankind. I hope that through my words someone may find something I’ve said useful, helpful, or inspiring.
Thank you.
