1 – She taught me to read and imbued me with a love of language
It’s a 1000% fact that I wouldn’t be a writer without my mom, Joycey Adassa Brown, because she’s entirely responsible for it. My love of language, the delightful way I use words, letters, grammar and syntax to lovingly craft sentences that inform, inspire, delight, and challenge, is all down to her.
You see, yours truly was a particularly rambunctious and energetic child with the frenetic energy of a bull in a china shop and half the grace. I was constantly running left and right, scaling objects I had no business scaling and breaking everything in sight. Hence, Joycey Adassa Brown needed a way to keep her wild toddler in check.
