From the monocultural rolling hills of the English countryside, I found myself staring up at skyscrapers in London at age 20, surrounded by diversity, life, bright colours and languages. I got a taste of Intercultural spaces and I never looked back.

Since then I have worked across 3 continents, lived with roommates from 12 nations and married a wonderful African man. I came of age in cross-cultural and intercultural spaces. I learned to cook, provide hospitality, and ‘how to adult’ from my peers around the world, and consequentially I have some very ‘un-British’ habits. I put on flipflops when I enter the bathroom, I have a rag permanently on my kitchen floor to mop the floor with my feet, I make sushi for special occasions, I eat with a spoon instead of a knife and fork, and I force feed anyone who comes through my door. I feel ‘at home’ almost anywhere, except for — well — ‘home’. I went from loathing the sun to suffocating without its energy. I suffer in places that go below 22 C.
