I’m Aida — a mum of one to my true soul-mate and life-traveler, Amani, who just became a teen.
I’m about to hit the mega milestone of fifty, which when I was twenty-five, I thought was grandma-sphere and you’re-just-about-to-die.
Oh boy! Hi grandma!
I’ve worn many hats over the years — broadcast journalist, PR specialist, executive assistant and small player in the events management space. I also tried my hand at network marketing and Bitcoin when I quit employment altogether.
Nothing really clicked though!
You could say before writing, I was somewhat of — a drifter?
That’s the closest word that comes to mind.
My son and I live in a small village called Mwiteria on the outskirts of Meru Town, in Kenya.
It took me a year to get the name right, let alone pronounce it correctly! For the simple reason that before this rural life — which I had imagined would be brief but turns out has tested the very limits of my endurance — I lived in Nairobi, Kenya’s New York City! Fast-paced, high-energy, restless…yeah.
