I’m Alex Deacon. I can’t swim very well but I was born in not-so-sunny Nottingham the furthest city from sea in the UK, so it’s never been a real concern…
Although take a look at my CV and you’ll see my 25m swimming certificate written in bold Times New Roman under strengths. Miss Dennison said it didn’t really count because I doggie paddled the last 10m… Although true, she didn’t have to say that in front of the whole class.
I’m the youngest of five, I have three brothers and a sister. Jamie, the eldest is 17 and-a-bit year’s older than me, which if you think about it, makes him hypothetically old enough to be my dad. When I was 6, he took me to Goose Fair, an annual event in October where the Forest Recreation ground is transformed into Europe’s biggest funfair. Jamie, fearing the wrath of our mother if he lost me, took off my t-shirt and wrote his phone number on my tummy with a black permanent marker. In a certain light, you can still see the numbers dyed into my skin…
