About Me — Alice
I am Alice, 34 years old and my journey has been far from your typical route to success (whatever success is).
I was born in France, grew up in the concrete suburb of Paris and progressively moved to the UK to study and pursue an academic career in climate change studies. In my work, I crossed multiple oceans on board research vessels, spending up to three months at sea with limited internet connection, doing the most in the name of Science. One scientific project to the next, I settled in South Africa, a country so foreign to me but that just felt like home.
Yet I knew deep down that Science wasn’t for me (story that I save for later) and I progressively found my way out from the tightness of Universities to my creative self through the standup comedy industry. Soon in my transition, I understood that I wanted to help comedians, their communication and the more logical things that artists sometimes struggle with (my logical background wasn’t all for nothing).
For a few years, I designed posters for comics, produced shows and eventually worked as a digital strategist with the number 1 leader of comedy festivals in France and Switzerland. I am now launching my own company, a digital agency for standup comedians; and while I know what I want to accomplish, I have no idea how to get there. Who does anyway?
To add more challenge to life, it’s during this rather chaotic career transition 3 years ago that my partner (a comedian of course) and I decided to add more stability in our lives by becoming property owners. With our own little means, that left us to live on an empty plot, a parked caravan with no shower and no electricity for more than a year. While building our dream garden from the sweat of our tears, I also learnt the deepest lessons of life and manifestation (also another story for later).
It’s a logical suite of life experiences that pushes me today to reunite with an old self that used to love writing. An old self that in all those challenging events used writing as way to let go emotions, put words to observations that I feel deeply connected with, and somehow inspire along the way.
By joining my writing journey here, you can expect to read some raw, deeply conflicted, sometimes poetic thoughts from me Alice, a French native scientist/creative/freelancer in pursuit of a life that isn’t about survival but about freedom.
