About Me — Angela Fernandez
Is this thing on?
Hello, friends and strangers! I’m Angela and I’m brand new to Medium. I write about life and other oddities. Think: growing up, changes in the world, love, sex, advice and relationships.
I, like most people, find introductions a bit awkward. But, here we go:
I’m from a teeny tiny little village in upstate New York and like a tale as old as time, I moved to Brooklyn after graduating from college.
I graduated from Colby College in 2019 with degrees in English and Anthropology. I was usually found prepping to teach Sex Ed, writing poems, drinking wine on my couch, or to be honest some combination of the three.
Before college I worked for a local, very old school newspaper and was the primary reporter for my hometown’s page. Throughout college I took some steps away from traditional news and worked at a culture and lifestyle magazine.
Through an internship I developed a relationship with the Bowery Poetry Club in NYC, and started taking my poetry writing more seriously. I started regularly writing and performing spoken word, and also had the opportunity to travel around New England to perform at a variety of events.
Writing poetry and working alongside poets has had a tremendous impact on my writing. I’m hyper critical of tone and definitely try to incorporate witty humor into everything.
While the Village of Millbrook holds a special place in my heart, I’ve always had the urge to get out of town. Though unoriginal, I love traveling, and am largely in it for the food.
One of my absolute favorite places in the world is Amman, Jordan. Jordan as a country is beautiful, the people are wonderfully friendly, and I could also eat falafel for every meal. Knafeh, too.
Switching gears again, I live in Brooklyn and spend the majority of my time with my boyfriend’s dog (my boyfriend, too I suppose), who I’ve deemed my step-son. He has as much personality as he does hair — which is a ton
Now, I am just trying to navigate life as a fairly recent graduate. I’ve had a bizarre plethora of jobs since graduating and the thing that’s been missing is a creative outlet.
Enter: Medium.
Stay tuned xx
