Hello, dear reader.
Thank you for being curious enough to pause and hear my story.
In my family, I’ve always been called Sonu. No one knew my official name, Anjali.
I used to be obsessed with surnames. As a kid, I’d fantasize about marrying someone with a really impressive one. That fantasy ended the day I landed in a toxic relationship — but we’ll get there.
My father served in the Indian Naval Military. We’re five in the family — two sisters, one brother, and our parents. I was born in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and because of his transfers, I’ve done my schooling in several Indian states.
But I’d rather start the story from Mumbai — because that’s where everything started feeling like a film.
I was 9 when we moved there.
It’s also where a guy proposed to me for the first time and It’s where I had my first-ever friend. Before that? Nothing. Not a single friend till I was 11.
