About Me — Ashley Lee
Just a girl trying to navigate the world and asking big questions along the way.
Hello everyone! My name is Ashley, and I’m new to Medium. Here’s a little bit about me and why I decided to start on my Medium journey! Please feel free to leave a comment or check out my page if we have any similar interests or just to say hi :D
I’m 20 years old, Taiwanese-American, and grew up in the Bay Area in California. I’m a rising senior at Northeastern University majoring in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, with double minors in Psychology & Law and Public Policy (a mouthful, I know). I feel like my majors & minors encapsulate my academic interests well—in a nutshell, I’m a big social science & humanities junkie, and I love learning and thinking about human behavior as it intersects with society.
I wanted to start this Medium account because I am someone who loves asking questions and having discussions with people about them (very Socrates-core of me, I fear), and I think that this would be a great platform for me to express my ideas with other interested people who can leave their thoughts on the idea too, rather than me constantly hounding the people in my life to talk about something or other.
I’m not 100% positive what direction my writing will go, as I’m planning on just going with the flow and writing about things that interest me and seeing what happens. However, I anticipate that I will write in the realm of my aforementioned academic interests and how I notice them applied to my life (and probably your life) or our society at large.
Some questions I’ve been thinking about lately:
- To what extent does ignorance get you off the hook? (What role should lack of information or uncertainty play in determining moral righteousness? To what extent does ignorance absolve an agent of blame for choosing a certain course of action?)
- What should society value? (Why does American society value efficiency and profits above all else? What could life look like if we placed higher value on social connection and well-being?)
- Should we abolish political parties? (Considering the immense partisanship in Congress and in our country at large, do political parties still serve the purpose they once did, or is it just doing more harm than good?)
Ultimately, I hope that I can use this platform as a place for me to write about questions that I’ve been thinking about and trying to work through, and that I can reach an audience who can provide their insights as well, in turn broadening my worldview to get closer to forming my own answers.
Also, here’s my dog Riley. He’s an adorable golden retriever & the biggest attention whore I’ve ever met.
If you’ve made it this far, thank you! I hope to see you on my page, where we can try to work through some interesting questions together :)
