Hi, I’m a software engineer based in Birmingham, UK. I enjoy exploring new technologies to see how they can be leveraged for value addition and problem-solving, and I’ve an even deeper appreciation for a few minutes spared for yoga or a cup of coffee before the kids wake up and get me busy for school runs.

Over the past few years, I’ve pitched and developed several ideas and software product features as an engineer, including internal hackathons at work. Some of them not only earned nods of approval but were also productionised, because turning prototypes into production-ready features is where the real engineering begins, where I’ve learned the most, and where the real fun (and the occasional headache) kicks in.

I’ve also led some deep dives into performance issues, particularly involving Elasticsearch, which has taught me patience, humility, and how not to panic when search isn’t performing in prod. From tracing slow queries to leading key investigations during the migration of NEST v7 clients to the new v8 client, I’ve found that the magic often lies in the small details.

But life’s not just about code; there’s more to it…

When I’m not immersed in a codebase, I enjoy taking an occasional run at the local park, delving into self-help motivational books, and going for long walks to unwind and clear my head. I’m also a big believer in quality family time, whether that’s playing board games, reading bedtime stories, or being soundly beaten at Mario Kart by the kids.

I also aim to share stories from the personal side — the moments outside the IDE that help keep me grounded, motivated, and sane, whether it’s balancing work and life, family time, or the occasional identity crisis when your 5-year-old explains iPad settings better than you.

I’m a proud husband and dad to two wonderful kids: an endlessly curious 5-year-old girl who insists she’s the real boss (and honestly, she might be right).

Here on Medium, I aim to share, and why follow me:

  • Lessons from hackathons, production fires, and Elasticsearch deep dives — real stories from the dev trenches
  • Practical engineering insights, minus the jargon overload
  • Honest takes on work-life balance and finding calm in the chaos
  • Occasional humour — because life’s too short for dry writing or untested code

Whether you’re an engineer or just someone figuring out how to stay afloat in tech and life, I hope these stories help, amuse, or at least make you feel a little less alone in the journey.

Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn if you’d like to collaborate, chat tech, or say hello!
