Born in Los Angeles County, California, I grew up just outside it. I’ve always felt myself on the edge, the fringes, not an outsider but never fitting into the social norm.

It wasn’t until I was much older than I realized I am a very sensitive empathic introvert with anxiety. I see now the impact that had on my life.

My Gen Z daughter, diagnosed with ADHD, recognized it in me too. As a Gen Xer, we just got along until our children got diagnosed. Then the a-ha moments came.

I grew up playing outside in the dirt, riding my bike, roller skating, drinking out of the garden hose, watching Twilight Zone and the Muppets.

Another factor that deeply affected me growing up was living with an undiagnosed autistic parent. I recognized her “differentness” as ASD about 30 years ago. Many things about my childhood suddenly made sense, the rigidity, the meltdowns, the emotional blindness. Now I am her caregiver.

I got into genealogy about ten years ago. I see the patterns of genetics and the impacts of those genes within environments. ADHD, ASD, anxiety…
