Have you ever gone through a situation in your life and thought, what if I could turn back the clock of time?
Hi there. My name is Clayton Micallef. I was introduced to meditation and the practices of mindfulness, compassion, and insight when I was quite young. I have been practising for over 25 years.
However, I did not truly grasp the value of contemplative practice until that fateful day in 2004.
“It takes just a second”
On the 27th of June 2004, in less than a second, my life was turned upside down. I was involved in a serious accident which left me permanently paralysed from the neck down.
Imagine one moment in life you are fully physically independent, and a second later, you can’t move a single muscle in your body.
Suddenly, you find yourself not even physically able to do the simplest things in life, from making yourself a glass of water to shushing away a fly that sits on your nose. You can just imagine the physical and mental trauma, as, in just 1 second, it was like losing all my life.
Although I strangely recall how, within the initial shock of the situation, I found myself strangely “calm and objective.” I would say that mindfulness helped me…
