About Me — Danielle Rossouw
Proud owner of a fully developed prefrontal cortex.
I’ve rewritten this opening in my head at least twenty times (as I’m sure you have too, if you’ve written one of these). It feels a bit like writer’s equivalent of :
“So, tell me about yourself”
That question, that no matter how much you’ve practiced, never quite leaves you feeling prepared. But here goes… about me.
My name is Danielle Rossouw. Well, Danielle is my second (and preferred) name. I’m a “Gen Z — Millennial” from South Africa.
A brief history of me
I grew up as an only child, raised by two mothers: my biological mother and my (Boomer) maternal grandmother.
My mother passed away when I was about six or seven, so I was raised for most of my life by her mother and was considered, by most, to my ‘grandmother’s favorite grandchild’ — not a title I bestowed upon myself. Nonetheless, due to various factors, including having gone to a good school and gotten reasonably good grades, there have always been high expectations of me and what I’d become. Being the people pleaser I was, at the time, I wanted to live up to all of it.
