They say if you want to be great at anything you can’t have a balanced life. You can’t be a great writer and lover and sailor and web developer and father and soccer coach and chef and competitive athlete and…something has to give. A lot of things have to give.

In the tilting of your life you come to settle on a version of yourself that meets the challenge of being a great <fill in the blank>. In my case, it is to be a great writer.

Right now, as I type this my dog is waiting by the door to go for his pre-dinner walk. My kids are waiting for me to whip up something delicious. And I can hear the washing machine in its final spin. I still need to finish a report for work. It never ends. I’ll need to take a break soon. My life is tilted.

I am a writer. This is my tilted life.

Who Am I

I’m an educated white male living in suburban America with a 6-figure income. And yes, I am self-aware enough to know how much privilege that adds up to be.

I was born in the heartland of America to two consenting adults, one of whom did not consent to be a parent. So at the tender age of three, my life was permanently bifurcated into two completely separate polar opposite families; Hatfields and McCoys. Liberal…
