About Me — Deena
Reading and writing have always been a part of who I am.
Reading and writing has always been a part of who I am. Strange considering I am severely hard of hearing and dyslexic, but here I am in a new chapter of life still going strong doing both. Maybe it’s because I am a Northerner, born and raised in Ontario, Canada. My home and native land. Both activities are the best on a cold day, and well, we are a tough stock. We keep on going even if the cold gets to you. We don’t give up.
I wrote my first story at five years old and sold it to my friends for five cents each. It was hand written and illustrated with pictures that I coloured with crayons. It was a fairy tale about a girl who goes to a magical land to save her mother and encounters foxes that fly and hair that turns to gold at the end and saves the day. Every book sold. Success!
I was hooked.
I began writing poems from sentences that popped into my head. Words as simple as I woke up this morning or she sat back down on a broken chair, paying to much attention twirling her hair. All my poems come as songs in my head. Every single one of them. These words playing in my mind would force me to sit down and write whatever words followed. They always follow, good or bad. I always feel like my poems are not really mine but messages for someone who…
