About Me — Denis Avguštin
Thinker, Software developer, often perceived as a pessimist, but in fact with strong ability to predict several possible outcomes right away… Well… It does sound pessimistic, right? 😉
Born and raised in Slovenia. Went to school in Slovenia. Nothing shocking.
From a very young age, I knew I was going to work with computers, so I took that path.
Besides technology, I have many interests. The most noticeable are economics, marketing, development, motivation, some psychology, etymology, …
I don’t like to “niche down”.
Professional Experience
I have been actively working with computers since I was in my high school, and started working professionally (getting paid for what I do) at the age of 15.
I started as a webmaster, expanded into system administrator, but later focused on web and mobile development.
Web development remained my priority, but then I added a few different jobs/projects to either expand my knowledge, or enhance my bank account 🙂
During my 20+ years, I have since worked in various fields and positions. Sometimes one of the team, other times team lead, or even technical director.
Some of the projects I have been working on were
- accounting firm,
- mobile games,
- mobile applications,
- social network,
- online marketing,
- even cryptocurrency.
This all sounds amazing, but something was missing.
Writing
I enjoy the most, when I see people, who have been working with me, or have been mentored by me, surpass me in some field.
It has happened many times.
When a friend of mine wanted to upgrade his personal website, it was the first situation where I found out that mentoring others is the best feeling.
Instead of doing it for him, I taught him how to do it. He learned and excelled in CSS. Eventually, he used this knowledge to earn some money while studying.
The satisfaction I get from teaching, and mentoring is addictive. That’s why I had an idea to share what I learned through years of working.
“Software developers are writers too. They just use different language.”
This is a quote I recently read, which convinced me to start writing (something else than software code). The idea of reaching many people through my writing has been developing for years, but I never thought of it like this.
I’m not a writer (yet), who would want to read what I have to say?
I guess it is a common issue in the beginning. Before we take the first step and just start. But now I did. I took the first step.
I am a writer.
