Diana Dolea was born in Romania. She is a lively, very shy and a shrewd soul. She continues to be so when her new land, Spain, receives her. Since then she has been writing poetry in a notebook, first in Romanian and, years later, in her second language. She also writes plays, short stories, diaries, and letters. Now she seeks to create poems in English, even though it is not her native tongue, as her spirit yearn for other realities.

Background — education and work experience

In 2011 Diana obtained a place in a Valencia’s University. She studied Food Technology and hereafter she enrolled in a master’s degree in food safety. Some years after, it occurred to her to study Management’s Assistance because she thought about acquiring new skills and knowledge. After these latest studies, she expects to work with industry-forming artists and cultural entrepreneurs.

Concerning her professional experience, in 2017 she volunteered in a bookstore for three years. Further on, she found a job in a coffee shop. Most recently, in 2023, she carried out an internship in an art gallery, located in Portugal. It turned out to be one of the most incredible experiences of her life.

With regard to languages, she loves learning them! She can communicate perfectly in Spanish and Romanian. She has also studied Russian and French. Likewise, she intends to improve her English language skills thanks to Medium. In short, she would never tire of learning new languages.

Creative projects

Without going into detail Diana would like to highlight that she has been publishing literary content on varios platforms since 2010 — for instance, on Blogger and WordPress. Now she only writes on Medium because she finds it convenient and easy to use. She also shares on social media, but not as much as before because she prefers to spend more time with her voice.

In her recent past time, she has self-published a story and she has also been part of some anthologies. Furthermore, she has edited a collaborative digital fanzine, named Khártir. As an aside, she has recorded some episodes for a Podcast regarding women writers.

Overall, her passions are literature, bookstores, arts and culture, creative writing, social work, museology and theatre.

Aspirations

At present, Diana dreams of devoting herself to writing — she would love it if her efforts could be rewarded financially, as she has no income. Since she does not find any real options in Spain, she would like to look for a life somewhere else with her partner, who also wants to emigrate.

She imagine her truly self living in some quiet place, surrounded by trees; she sees her soul working in a small bookstore and typing a lot in her spare time. She also visualizes herself riding a bike near a river and memorizing Emily Dickinson’s poems on cooler evenings.

“It’s all I have to bring today — / This, and my heart beside — / This, and my heart, and all the fields — / And all the meadows wide — / Be sure you count — sh’d I forget / Some one the sum could tell — / This, and my heart, and all the Bees / Which in the Clover dwell.” (Emily Dickinson)

Above all, she wishes to remain cheerful, innocent, and kind-hearted.

Favorite topics on Medium

Diana writes about what inspires her; she is fond of universal themes, such as the identity of the self, immortality, love, nature’s mysteries… She is into abstract ideas and poems filled with metaphors. It is worth noting that she shows little concern for formal structure, choosing instead to focus on the feeling conveyed through the words.

She adores 18th and 19th century literature, especially Russian, so her spirit is quite Slavonic. She also loves magical surrealism — her favorite novel is one written by Juan Rulfo, called Pedro Páramo.

Additionally, she publishes creative texts in Spanish and personal reflections on stillness, time without social networks, and other deep emotions.

In essence, Diana is here because she loves writing above all else and believes that, with your support, she could trust her more and would no longer hesitate. She greatly cherish all comment — for now, she is really surprised by the affection received and does not stop dreaming.
