About Me — DM Hanton
British-Canadian, Mil-Spouse, Auto-immune, wise-cracking, globe-trotting, writer-wannabe!
This is the ‘six-word bio’ I came up with for myself in a writing class a couple of years ago. Never one to use fewer words when more will do, and as a person of a certain age, being less likely to follow the rules, I thought it was a creative workaround. And as I have the luxury of more space here, I’ve expanded on each as a fuller introduction.
British-Canadian
Born near Liverpool, I lived all over the UK and emigrated to Canada with my family when I was eighteen. The transition from bucolic English countryside to the Wild West that was Calgary, Alberta in the early ’80s induced major culture shock. Plus, I had never experienced the bone-numbing cold that the Canadian prairies can dish up. However, seeing the Rockies from my back deck made up for (some of) it.
I now live in Victoria, British Columbia — a beautiful city that aspires to be more English than the English, so feels as though I’ve come full circle. Here it rains. A lot. But at least I understand that kind of weather.
Mil-Spouse
