You can’t do it!!!

Yes, I can, I will and I made it guys.

Growing up as a little girl, I knew that I didn’t want to be ordinary, regardless of my background.

From an English-speaking homeland to Francophone education. My journey has been marked by resilience, a relentless quest for knowledge, and dedication.

A Resilient Beginning

I was born in Ghana but raised in Togo, I was practically like a bridge between cultures, have become fluent in the adapted languages since I was young. When I returned to Ghana after graduating from elementary school, I was excited to return, but my excitement was marred by an unexpected challenge: a significant language barrier.

Despite my proficiency in French, English — the language of my future studies, presented a major obstacle and my path to higher education was challenged by a language barrier, delaying my entry to high school by four years.

You can’t go to a high school.

Why can’t I?

You can’t speak English.

What? I can.

I watched 4 years of my life gone down the drain. But the good thing is I never stop dreaming or believing in myself.

I navigated my language barrier in academic performance. I wouldn’t say it was easy but thanks to those who said to me ‘You can’t’ that was my greatest motivation to thrive.

Turning Barriers into Stepping Stones

The delay should have discouraged me, but on the contrary, it strengthened my determination. Those four years, often painful because of slow progress, were not wasted. They are rich in self-education, during which I turned obstacles into opportunities.

This period sharpened my resolve and taught me an invaluable lesson: resilience depends not on how quickly you can get back on track but on how resolutely you follow it.

Academic and Personal Growth

My academic journey reflects my commitment to overcoming adversity. Today I hold a bachelor's degree in Meteorology and Climate Science, a postgraduate diploma in Remote Sensing and GIS, and an MPhil. Meteorology and Climate Science. I am skilled with tools like QGIS, ArcGIS, ERDAS Image, and SNAP, as well as programming in Python. These kill-sets have enabled me to make a meaningful contribution to the scientific community, through peer-reviewed publications.

Each degree was not just a milestone but a testament to my perseverance. Next is to pursue a PhD, a critical step in my career that will enable me to deepen my knowledge to contribute to our understanding of climate impacts with a focus on sustainable environmental practices. I am passionate about applying my knowledge to solve real-world problems related to our environment.

I am a partner to an incredibly supportive spouse and we both engage in research work.

My story is not just about personal success; it’s about inspiring others to relentlessly pursue their dreams, no matter the obstacles they face. I share my journey to light the spark for others who may be facing their obstacles.

On platforms like Medium, I seek to not only learn and connect but also empower and inspire. I believe that on Medium, together, we can turn challenge into change and uncertainty into understanding.

I never promised an easy journey.

That’s a bit about me!
