About Me: Fiza Ameen
An educator and writer.
Many people find it hard to introduce themselves in formal settings. For me, introducing myself beyond what I do for a living is tougher.
I was born and raised in a small urban town in Pakistan, a South Asian country. I’ve always had a multi-passionate nature, which had merits and demerits: making me important for what I did, but also an occasional disaster.
English has been my favorite subject. It’s my third language. Despite having a comfy bed, I spent most of my childhood and adulthood nights learning “other ways to say this and that in English.”
I always wanted to be an English teacher, but my parents, as many South Asian parents, wanted me to pursue science, and so I became a physics teacher and a self-taught writer.
I won school and regional writing competitions, but I never thought I could write for an audience. Writing, to me, was an esteemed, untouchable entity, and writers were gifted creatures.
But, in the first wave of COVID, when nothing would put my mind to rest, writing and researching for writing did.
