About Me — Francesca Lembregts
Bio
Hello there! My name is Francesca — most people call me “Chesca” though, so feel free to call me that as well. I’m not a big fan of “Fran”, however!
I’m 29 years old, soon to be 30. Unlike a lot of people I know, I’m looking forward to hitting this milestone. Everyone says it marks a new chapter in your life and, as a passionate writer and reader, how could I not be excited to move onto a new chapter? (That’s not to say I haven’t very much enjoyed the previous ones!)
I currently live in a beautiful part of the North West of the UK with my hilariously Belgian husband and gorgeous rescue dog. Outside of writing, I love good walks/hikes, good food, good books, and good company.
My Writing Journey
I was forever writing stories as a little girl but as I grew older, life simply seemed to get in the way. I went to university after I left school, during which I spent a year living in France and met some of the best people I know, including my husband. But I wasn’t quite sure what to do with myself when I’d finished my degree. I fell into a corporate job which gave me a steady income and decent opportunities for career progression. Then I blinked, and there I still was, seven years later.
2020 forced many of us to slow down. It also gave us time back in our daily lives, desired or not. For me, here was the opportunity to start writing again and see where it could take me. As a result, six months later I ended up quitting my corporate career to focus on writing full time for a few months, with the vision of then moving into a job role that would either complement my writing aspirations or continue to allow me to dedicate time to it. And, as part of this life decision, here I am on Medium!
My passion is writing fiction. Both short fiction (examples: Face of Change and The Only Way) and I am also currently buried deep within a full-length novel. I am pursuing growth as a writer, and my ultimate goal is to be published.
Like my reading tastes, the stories I write are extremely varied in theme and genre — variety is the spice of life, after all! However, I have recently found myself drawn to well-established superstitions, old wives’ tales and little white lies we tell young children, and asking myself “but what if they were true?” Then, I write.
And to Finish…
I believe in enjoying the little things in life, not only the big things. Kindness doesn’t cost a penny, but being kind will make your life so much richer. Work hard and be healthy, but remember to have fun and enjoy what the world has to offer.
I am always grateful for honest feedback and enjoy engaging with others so please do leave me your thoughts on anything I have written.
Thank you for reading! :)
