About me

I arrived at Medium when I’d randomly come across a blog by an ex-friend that had written untrue and frankly horrible things about me. But not being a person to dwell on the negative, I made myself at home and found that Medium was in fact a wealth of wonderful musings and I’ve stuck around.

I had the pleasure of working in the exciting world of sexual health for over fifteen years. When my Dad died suddenly and tragically almost six years ago I decided to change my career and studied to become a journalist.

Now at nearly 46 years old I am establishing myself as a documentary maker and working as a freelance journalist. Having been involved in broadcast I’d kind of forgotten that I can write, so have tried my hand at blogging in the first person about my experiences of losing a parent and grief.

I live in Wirral right across the river Mersey from Liverpool in the UK and enjoy aggressive rollerskating in the skatepark, spend endless hours with my friends up to all kinds of mischief and play Scrabble against a serious word master that shall remain anonymous.

Getting air at the skatepark on my roller skates.

I’ve got a cat called Chi Chi that has a penchant for tearing his prey’s head off and dropping them on my pillow to wake up to, so when I’m not writing you’ll mostly find me screaming into the bedside cabinet and flinging my cat’s torn-up corpses into the bin.

My hope for my work on Medium is to bring comfort to others from the things I’ve overcome. Life can be difficult and you shouldn’t ever keep your successes to yourself. My victories can be other peoples’ too. It is a pleasure to have a platform that has the potential to make a positive difference to the reader.

I hope you’ll give me a follow and enjoy my posts. A big thank you to Quy Ma for inviting me to write this piece.

Blessings and virtual paper cuts to you all,

Gioia

Read the three simple things I did to help me get over my Dad’s death here.

Join Medium via my link and I’ll be able to make a little bit of cash too. Help a sister out :) Thank you
