Let me tell you my story as I takeyou through the ups and downs I faced when I decided to leave my tight-knit, childhood community in Galicia to develop an academic and professional career in Barcelona, showing you my way of life and the professional and personal insights I gathered while working in one of the most innovative and technological landscapes of Spain.
My Origins in Galicia, a Land of Tradition and Mystery
In case you haven’t heard of Galicia yet, I will be referring to the most northwestern region of Spain, bordering above Portugal, a place widely known by the Spanish neighboors as a cold, moist, and foggy environment inhabited with a rich cultural tradition made upon the story of different civilizations such as the Celts, the Romans and the Germanic tribes.
A traditional proverb says “hay un gallego en la luna — There is a Galician man on the moon”, referring to the history of Galician emigrants. My grandfather had Galician origins in the town of Porriño but settled in Madrid to work as a veterinarian, my father was born in Madrid. On my…
