About Me — Haylee Griffith

Hello, fellow Medium writers and beyond!
My name is Haylee Griffith and I’m currently a freshman at the University of Denver. I am a first-generation college student working towards getting a bachelor’s in media studies with a Minor in Marketing.
I started writing on this app in 2020 when I was 16. I am now 18 and am constantly updating this post to reflect me as myself and the things around me are changing.
If you want to know just a little bit more about the person writing the stuff you read, then you’re in the right place! If not, you should still stick around because I love attention.
Why I write
I took a creative writing class in high school which, by the way, was the best decision of my life. The first day we were asked, “Why do you write?” and it was something I never had really thought about before.
I have been writing since I could hold a pencil because it’s just what I’ve always done. I’ve never taken the time to think why.
So, I sat there, and I really thought about it…
I figured out that I write because I have stories to tell and nobody else can do it quite like me.
I write because I hope to change the world one day with powerful words that have an impact on people.
I write because I have fun knowing that even if only one person reads what I have to say, I’ve still made an impact and I love that feeling.
I love having a voice in a world where my opinion matters, and I don’t want to sit in the corner and wait for someone to say something for me. I write because I want to make myself heard, and that’s why I joined Medium.
I knew right away that it was going to be filled with primarily adults who know and have experienced so much more than me, but that was exactly what I wanted.
Being here gives me the opportunity to see a whole new perspective on life and it is helping me discover what I care about. I thank you all for that.
My hobbies
Now I know you are just dying to know what a super cool college kid like me does in her free time, and honestly, I’m not too sure either.
I’m usually drowning in homework so I’m never really too sure what to do with my free time. Here are some of the things you can usually find me doing…
I like to spend most of my time writing stories right here. I like to focus on topics including social media, life as a student, pop culture, and my experiences in life because I feel I can provide a new perspective most of the time. I spend a ton of time on social media so why not use it to my advantage?
I am also super into fashion and art so you will almost always catch me starting a new project because I love making something new that has never been seen before.
Things I love
I have 2 cats that I love more than anything in the world. I’ve fully embraced the crazy cat lady thing so you couldn’t hurt my feelings if you tried. I’m not ashamed of loving my pets!

My favorite people to be around are, without a doubt, my parents. They are my best friends and biggest supporters. I’m lucky to have such supportive parents and I know they will support me no matter what. They have always wanted what is best for me and they drive me to do what I love.
