About Me — Hien Vo

Hello 👋. My name is Hien (pronounced ‘he-end’ but without the ‘d’) Vo. So far, French people are the only ones who have consistently gotten my name right. For the rest of western civilization, I think my name looks like it tried to spell Heinz but failed 😆. Anyways, I was born in Vietnam and came to the U.S. when I was 17. Since then, I’ve been in school. I got my bachelor's in chemistry and physics from the University of Houston. Then, I went straight into a chemistry Ph.D. program at the University of Chicago. But after 2 years, I decided that I was not at a point in my life where I wanted to finish a Ph.D. So now, amidst a raging pandemic, I’m hunting for a job. But also, for the first time in my life, I’m not in the structured environment that is school. It’s a new kind of freedom, and I thought it was time to try doing what I’ve always wanted to do: write. Below are topics plan to use Medium for.
