How An Introverted Asian Nerd Ended Up With The Hot Girl
The 80s was perhaps the best time for us to grow up in. Of course, I realize that’s how most of us feel about their childhood too.
I remember a time when life was simpler. Or slower. Dad and mum both worked as teachers, so they’d be up and about by 6am, and left for work 45 minutes later.
That meant I had enough time to laze around, hiding under the covers while waiting for the sun to rise just a bit higher before getting out of bed. Back then, having no Netflix or Cable meant that turning on the TV would be pretty boring for a kid.
So I did the next best thing — wake my younger brother up so that we could play a little before walking over to our sitter. That’s the earliest memory I have of my childhood in the dreamy little town of Ipoh, Malaysia.
Fast forward 40 years later or so, I find myself living in close proximity to our nation’s capital, married to the hot chick of her town, and becoming a parent to a Cub. My girl.
Somewhere in the year of her birth, a particular book was published. It was written by law professor Amy Chua with the title of Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother.
Of course that shit intimidated the hell out of me … seeing how an Asian mother…
