About Me — Iose Cocuzza

I wrote my ‘About Me’ story on January 1st, 2024 marking a fresh start to the new year, even though I’ve been a Medium Member since late October 2023.
Giuseppina is my legal name, but from the day I was born, my parents have always called me Iosè. Perhaps they were seeking a shorter form for Josephine. They were never quite clear on the origin of my name’s story. They spelled it as J O S E’, which didn’t make any sense to me. I always spelled it as I O S E’, pronounced as intended.
Anyway, that’s how I’ve always made my entrance into the world: as Iosè!
I was born and raised in Italy, with my early years spent predominantly in Palermo, and later, lived in Rome from age 19 until the age of 27.
Following that, I briefly lived in Ireland for 6 months before making a more permanent move to NYC, where I have lived for the past 21 years.
This brings me to the age of 49, with a significant birthday approaching this year! Yet, it’s just another number! ;-)
I lost my dad when I was 9 years old, an undoubtedly traumatic experience for any child at that age. I have one brother and one sister, and I am the youngest in the family.
