About Me — Jason Lee
Travel Writer, Lonely Planet Author, Over Thinker
Hi! My name is Jason Lee and I’m a writer.
Why does that sound like I’m sitting in a round circle of chairs at a “writer’s anonymous” meeting in a dingy room at the back of a small-town high school?
I guess because that’s how a lot of us feel when we tell someone we’re writers. Am I right?
I’m happy to say though, that I’ve thrown aside the mysticism, cynicism, and criticism, and am here to proudly stand up on Medium, and declare to the world that I am, in fact, a writer.
Not that that was ever in doubt, and lately more than a few of my friends and family have been witness to me emerging from my cocoon — pretty new wings and all.
It wasn’t always that way, however.
The Early Years
I grew up in Brisbane, Australia, in a small riverside suburb that looked and smelt like it was constantly striving to live up to its local, native name that meant “swamp”. Needless to say, it wasn’t exactly “the heights” although in latter years the yuppie crowd did begin to mount a quiet takeover.
That was long after I was gone though, because at the tender age of 15, I was off to join the Navy.
