Scottish, Middle-Aged, In Pursuit of New Adventures
Hi, fellow Medium members, I’m Jennifer. I’ve been writing on Medium since September, so this introduction is a little overdue.
Like many on this platform, I came across Medium after searching YouTube for “side hustles”. I’m 13 years away from hopefully retiring and paying off my mortgage, so I was hoping to earn a little extra, to be debt-free sooner. Not sure $12.05 is going to make all that much difference, to be honest.
Although I enjoyed writing and literature at school and studied languages at university, I somehow fell into finance as a career.
It pays the bills, but it isn’t fulfilling. Most days it isn’t even satisfying. Hence, the writing.
I’d love to write fiction, but so far it’s eluding me. I haven’t found my niche – unless you can call “random nonsense” a niche. All things Scottish is the closest I have.
My passion is travel. At last count, I’ve visited 18 countries and passed through a few more, which is more than average, but not really that many when you consider there are 193 countries to see, so I need to get a move on! This year’s trip won’t increase my total, I’m heading to Amsterdam for the second time, though the previous visit was around 2000, before holiday itineraries were planned online and on YouTube, so it will be a different experience. Fewer diamond museums and more foodie must-sees.
