About Me — Jesse M. Gonzalez
My story on writing, traveling, and finding my place
My name is Jesse, and I was born in Sacramento, California in February of 1993, where I resided for the grand majority of my life, until I moved to North Carolina in 2014 for a fresh start from certain troubles that encumbered me at the time, but I won’t bother to get into that right now. I studied general education at Central Piedmont Community College with a plan to attain some form of degree in Nutrition, until my English teacher encouraged me to consider switching educational goals — creative writing, or something of the like. So, I ended up taking more classes in accordance with English writing, where some of my teachers would use my papers to be examples for future classes. This flattered me as writing was always something that enamored me. I now had new goals — I wanted to be a writer.
During this time, there was a literary contest administrated by the League of Innovations, a community college literary platform, with three categories — short story, essay, and poetry. I decided to write a poem for the contest. I took much time on it as the style was much different than what I had previously written. There were three stanzas, and each line of each stanza mirrored off the other lines from the other stanzas, forming a precise rhyming scheme. I was proud of it and decided to…
