About Me — Jessica Goodman
An “about me” seems to be written in vain
When one is asked to, “tell me a little bit about yourself” maybe in an interview, networking event, or first date, you are trying to communicate and influence others that you are this specific version of yourself. Humans are multifaceted and multidimensional. How can you possibly see who I am through an article? Example: Would telling you I’m 25 years old and just moved to San Francisco make you think you know me? What if I told you that my startup went under the second I moved here? Along with my long-term relationship ending?
Talk about a season of change? As depressing as this all sounds, I can’t express enough— I thank my lucky stars I am sitting exactly where I am right now. I have never been happier.
The prenotion of who I am is an ideology for my readers to create.
What I can tell you, from a recent turn of events in my life, it has been a drastic whirlwind of change. Very exciting. I am finding peace in my writing and that's how I found myself here. A passion project- if you will.
I have always been a writer- quietly and really just for myself. When I was a little girl I had a very detailed, dramatic diary. As I got older, I caught myself writing love notes, extensive letters, and pages on pages in birthday cards for my loved ones any chance I’d get. It made me happy to write something that could express myself and use words to exude emotions from people.
When I was 11 years old I started writing love letters to the man I would marry. I didn't know him then, and I still don't know him now. Neverless- I will hand all these prepubescent, heartbroken, and exuberant letters on our wedding day. The person I thought I would perform this handoff to has changed many times, but the letters have not.
The most important relationship you will ever have, is the one you foster with yourself. If you don't have that, what do you have? I find with writing you can nurture this relationship further, but you also can create an emotional bond with potential followers and readers — knowing someone is behind these words.
For the concrete details of me, here’s my quick synopsis;
I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. Since graduating from university, I have invented and reinvented myself, and moved to different states/cities to experience every ounce of what this world has to offer. I have had different jobs and have enjoyed learning about the business world in my young adult career. I consistently have stars in my eyes and have stayed curious, determined, and grateful. With the recent changes in my profession, dating life, new city, and new friendships… a lot of my content is going to be centered around motivation, mindset, travel, dating, business, and sharing my reflections on the world around me.
Rule #1 on blogging and writing is: Pick your niche, choose a narrow topic, don't be broad or a “lifestyle blogger”. That's what the internet says at least…
Cheers & happy reading :)
