My beauitful family!

Who I Am

I love Oreos, snow, and laughter.

I can eat fire off torches like those guys in the circus. I haven’t told my kids, and plan to wait until they’ve grown to surprise them.

I haven’t had anything caffeinated since November 2010.

Yes. Two-thousand ten.

I never leave the house wearing a shirt that has graphics or text on it.

Spending time with my wife and kids is genuinely my favorite thing to do.

I think a lot about the time I have left on earth, even counting the weeks every Monday.

I can’t stand the smell of hazelnut.

In college, I became Internet-famous for helping thousands of people get MacBooks for free.

I love the show Seinfeld. Contrarily, I have never seen an episode of Friends. I think I’ll save it for a rainy day in the nursing home when the kids don’t come around anymore.

I read 2–4 books a month, yet the stack of unfinished ones never seems to grow smaller.

Technology is my forte.

After college, I fell into starting a business with no idea what I was doing, but it turned out to be exactly what I was meant to do.

I’d go skydiving if they could put me to sleep first and wake me up right as they push me out of the plane. And what a terrifying flash of groggy surprise that would be.

I’m a Christian trying to live out this busy life in search of the abundant one Jesus promises.

I require less sleep than the average person.

After 15 years as a business owner, I still feel like I have very little idea what I’m doing.

Growing up I had two hermit crabs, a dozen fish, and one cat. I accidentally killed both crabs and all the fish. I toilet-trained the cat.

I am a visionary, a creator, and an introvert. Those are my superpowers.

The greatest life lesson I have learned is that everything, absolutely everything, ends up working out for my good.

I have an extremely high metabolism and dread the day when I will no longer be able to eat anything I want.

My first kiss was with my wife on our first date after a horse-drawn carriage ride. Fast forward to our wedding years later, my favorite moment was watching her jaw drop as I opened the doors from our reception hall, revealing the surprise horse-drawn carriage I had booked to carry us away.

A self-professed Apple fanboy, I got my first Mac in 2006, and the original iPhone in 2007.

I go on a two-day Thinking Retreat at the start of each new year.

When I was ten I blew the power to my grandma’s entire house by sticking a large magnet into a light socket.

I have played on baseball, racquetball, and golf teams, but didn’t really enjoy any of them.

My wife and I say we’ll work at Disney World after we retire, just for fun.

I know nothing about politics.

I have a degree in Creative Writing, and nearly every paper I wrote in four and a half years of college was completed entirely in the twenty-four hours before it was due.

Once for Halloween to dress up as Jack Sparrow I wore eye shadow, and I must admit I kind of liked it.

I can only spend so much time in a group of people before I need to have some time alone.

Before becoming self-employed I was a valet, a computer technician, a burger flipper, a warehouse manager, a librarian, a babysitter, a parking garage attendant, and a maintenance guy.

I can be found at Starbucks every Monday morning to plan my week with intention and without distraction. I always put my headphones in, sometimes so I can listen to music, and sometimes so people won’t talk to me.

I am very blessed to have more than one best friend.

At the births of each of our kids, the thing that stuck with me the most was that my wife is capable of anything.

I have long felt that there is some untapped potential, some grand idea floating around just beneath the surface of my mind, ever evading and always eluding conscious thought.

Once in the eighth grade, a teacher told me I was a good writer, and that probably has a good deal to do with you reading this today.

What I’m Working On

I spend most of my working hours growing my business Rely Technology. We help people who are building their dream homes to get the right technology, including audio, video, security and smart home solutions. It’s a lot of fun and I’ve been doing it since 2008.

My vision is to systemize the business and expand it throughout the US via partnerships or franchisees to become a $100M company. We currently have two branches — the original in Lexington, Kentucky, and a second in Charleston, South Carolina. We’ve also created a separate division of the company focused on motorized window treatments, The Smart Shade Company.

I’m also a partner and co-founder of K&J Cleaning, providing construction cleanup and commercial janitorial services to the Central Kentucky area.

I became a real estate investor in 2016 when I purchased an office building in Lexington. My wife and I recently purchased our first short term rental property outside of Disney World, and it was a lot of fun — and a lot of work — to put together.

My writing journey has had its ups and downs. I got a degree in Creative Writing at the University of Kentucky and wrote regularly on my blog at JoshClark.com during my college years. After graduation, I started my business and my family, and my writing took a backseat while each of those grew.

After years of a writing drought, I’m finding much joy and fulfillment in getting back into it by posting here on Medium.

My goal with my writing is to help make your life a little bit better. Topics include personal growth, business, writing, and my personal favorite, living life with intentionality.
